Long-term fixes are being proposed, such as expanding roadways, introducing dedicated lanes, and optimizing traffic signal sequences,” said a senior government official involved in the initiative.
Impact of Bus Stops and Shelters
Bus stops and shelters have been identified as major contributors to traffic delays in specific hotspots like Shadipur Chowk, Azadpur Mandi, Ashram Chowk, and Jaitpur Mor. Officials noted that the proximity of these stops to main thoroughfares often results in vehicles halting on lanes, causing ripple effects that exacerbate congestion. For instance, at Shadipur Chowk, buses frequently stop on the main road, leading to a standstill for private vehicles. Similarly, erratic behavior by bus operators, such as disembarking passengers outside terminals, has disrupted the flow of traffic at ISBT Anand Vihar.
“Even minor delays at these points can create significant bottlenecks. We are exploring options like relocating shelters or introducing staggered boarding times to minimize their impact,” added a traffic management expert.
