Three Suspects Arrested in Maharashtra TET 2026 Question Paper Leak Case

Three suspects detained in the Maharashtra – On Saturday, Thane police arrested three individuals in connection with the alleged sale of question papers for the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026. The exam, originally set for June 28, was delayed earlier that day due to suspicions of a leak.

Police Operation and Evidence Discovery

Authorities stated that the police had set a trap and apprehended the suspects after receiving information indicating the TET 2026 question paper was being sold. A case was filed at the Kongaon Police Station in Thane, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was established to probe the incident further.

The TET exam was initially planned for 1,028 centers across Maharashtra on Sunday. However, the test was moved after police uncovered proof that certain questions had been disclosed prior to the event.

Raid and Verification Process

According to Nandkumar Bedse, director of the Maharashtra State Examination Council, police obtained confidential intel on June 27 that some individuals in Bhiwandi had access to the TET question paper. Acting swiftly, Bhiwandi police executed a raid and contacted exam council officials to review materials seized from the site.

During the inspection, it was confirmed that several questions in the recovered documents aligned with the actual TET 2026 exam. This prompted the filing of a criminal case, with ongoing investigations into the matter.

Official Statement on Postponement

“We have already announced the postponement and issued a formal notification. This information is available on the website, and students have been informed that the exam has been postponed… There is no need to panic. They should continue their studies. They do not need to register again either,” said Priya Shinde, deputy commissioner of the council.

The council emphasized that the rescheduling was necessary to ensure the exam’s integrity and transparency. A new date for the test will be shared on the official Maharashtra State Examination Council website.

Political Responses to the Leak

Opposition parties, including the Congress, criticized the BJP government over the leak, labeling it the “Paper Leak Government.” A Congress user on X remarked, “Another paper leak. The TET paper has been leaked in Maharashtra. The exam was scheduled for tomorrow, which has now been canceled. Under the BJP government, there is no paper that doesn’t get leaked.”

Arvind Kejriwal, leader of the AAP, targeted the government, stating, “Another exam has been leaked. They’ve spared neither the exams nor the temples. They’re stealing everywhere. Some of their favourite people say that the lower-level folks are doing it, and the higher-ups have no hand in it. But such massive-scale chaos happening continuously every day isn’t possible without the involvement of the higher-ups. It simply can’t be that the money isn’t reaching the top. The higher-ups are buying so many MPs and MLAs with this very money.”

Ambadas Danve, a Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, added that Maharashtra had previously been a hub for NEET paper leaks and accused the government of not learning from past mistakes. “Maharashtra was also a centre for NEET paper leak. But the Government didn’t learn anything from it. TET is a smaller exam, but the Maharashtra Govt didn’t pass here… I think this paper leak is a humiliation for Maharashtra Govt. This Govt cannot handle the TET paper,” Danve claimed via ANI.
