What makes this achievement remarkable is its origin. While many presumed it was recorded in a traditional studio, the song was actually created using artificial intelligence by a Nagpur-based developer. This revelation surprised not only fans but also the team behind the AI platform, Soundverse AI.

Behind the Viral Success

Sourabh Pateriya, co-founder of Soundverse AI, shared his astonishment with Hindustan Times. “I had no idea Kush used Soundverse to generate it,” he admitted. The platform, which now boasts over 3.5 million users, has enabled more than 15 million songs to be created. Yet, individual tracks often fly under the radar until something like ‘Chai Ki Tapri’ captures widespread attention.

“I got a text from a friend saying, ‘Hey, I feel this song could be AI, and it’s worth checking if it’s made in Soundverse.’ I saw the episode, heard the song—it’s a really fun track. It definitely caught me off guard.”

Confirming its creation, the team traced the track back to mid-May when it was generated on Soundverse. For Sourabh, the bigger takeaway wasn’t just the song’s popularity but the fact that millions believed it was crafted by a human artist named AJ.

“For the longest time, people doubted it was AI. They always thought AJ actually sang on it, which is not true. It gives me confidence that AI music is here to stay, and it’s becoming good enough for people not to even recognize it,” he explained.

AI’s Role in Modern Music

Sourabh, who once performed as a metal musician under the name Blue Nucleus, sees AI as a tool rather than a threat. “I realized there are two components to making a song,” he said. “One is the creative part—your taste, storytelling, and aesthetics. The other is the technical side—the engineering, DAW, programming, and recording.”

He believes AI will not replace human creativity but streamline the technical process, allowing artists to focus on their artistic vision. “The technicality is something that can be automated,” he added. Despite advancements, Sourabh maintains that AI still can’t fully replicate the emotional depth that human musicians bring to their work.

As the technology evolves, the question of AI’s emotional capacity in music remains. While critics argue machines can mimic melodies and lyrics, they question whether AI can truly evoke the lived experiences that make music resonate. Sourabh acknowledges this challenge but remains optimistic. “Humans are the source of musicality, story, and emotions. AI is simply learning from them,” he asserted.
