Man horse drown as cart sinks – A tragic accident claimed the lives of a 40-year-old dairy worker and his horse after a horse-drawn cart became submerged in a waterlogged railway underpass near Bajaut village, Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district. The police confirmed the incident on Sunday, following its occurrence on Saturday.

Rakesh Saini, who resided in Brahmpuri’s Khatta Road area, was en route to gather animal feed when the tragedy unfolded. He was employed at a local dairy, according to authorities.

“Following intense rainfall, the underpass on the Bijlibamba Road-Bajaut route was submerged under seven to eight feet of water,” stated the police. A railway crew member stationed at the site had previously cautioned Saini against entering the flooded area.

Despite the warning, Saini proceeded with his cart into the积水. As the vehicle reached the center of the underpass, it began to sink. Nearby residents heard his cries for assistance but arrived too late to save him or his equine companion. The horse, tethered to the cart, could not escape.

A police unit later retrieved the cart, Saini’s body, and the horse’s remains using iron chains and ropes after a 30-minute operation. The deceased’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination.

Officials Take Action

Circle officer Sangram Singh mentioned that directives have been issued to halt vehicle traffic on the route due to severe waterlogging. Additional divisional railway manager Paritosh Gautam highlighted that an investigation into the event was conducted, emphasizing ongoing efforts to mitigate future flooding risks.

“Gautam stated that additional measures are being implemented to prevent waterlogging at the underpass. He also urged the public to avoid crossing flooded railway tunnels.”
