Door-to-door verification of 91 lakh voters in Pune to begin from June 30
Door-to-Door Voter Verification in Pune Begins on June 30
Door to door verification of 91 lakh – The Pune district administration is set to initiate a comprehensive verification campaign targeting over 91 lakh voters starting on June 30, as part of the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program. This marks the first large-scale revision in more than two decades, aiming to update electoral rolls by identifying and eliminating duplicate, displaced, deceased, and other ineligible entries.
The effort will focus on ensuring that only qualified citizens are registered, with particular attention to foreign nationals and individuals who have moved locations. A key goal is to rectify discrepancies and include all eligible voters in the final list.
Timeline and Process Overview
Preparations for the verification will commence on June 20, with the printing of forms and training sessions for election staff. From June 30 to July 29, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct a month-long enumeration phase to confirm voter details and gather necessary information.
The draft electoral rolls will be released on August 5, allowing citizens to submit claims or objections from that date until September 4. A follow-up period from October 3 to October 7 will finalize the rolls after resolving all disputes.
“Pune has the highest number of voters among districts in Maharashtra, with over 91 lakh electors. The district also witnesses significant migration, making periodic verification of voter records essential,” said Jitendra Dudi, Pune District Collector and District Election Officer.
Verification Requirements and Procedures
Officials emphasized that applicants must present at least one of 13 specified documents during the process. Aadhaar cards will be required alongside an additional proof of residential address. If documents raise doubts, further checks will be conducted before final decisions are made.
Transparency is a priority, with political parties actively involved in the process. Dudi highlighted adherence to Election Commission guidelines to maintain accuracy in the voter list.
Special Outreach Initiatives
To address underrepresented communities, the district has introduced targeted measures. A dedicated officer will oversee transgender voter inclusion, while teams will visit persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and other vulnerable groups to ensure full coverage.
The last similar revision was completed in 2002, and many current officials lack firsthand experience with such an extensive process. This effort aims to create an error-free electoral roll while addressing the challenges posed by Pune’s large migrant population and dynamic voter demographics.
