Third Kite String Attack in Ten Days Leaves Delhi Man with Slit Throat

Bharatmorningnews.com – A 35-year-old resident sustained serious injuries in northeast Delhi’s Maujpur locality when a stray kite’s glass-coated string wrapped around his neck on Saturday. The incident marks the third such occurrence within a ten-day span in the capital.

According to police reports, GTB Hospital received news around 2 pm about a patient named Gaurav Sharma who had been brought in with neck wounds. A senior law enforcement official explained that the victim was riding a motorcycle near the Maujpur traffic signal when the manjha caught onto his neck and cut his throat. After falling from his vehicle, he received immediate assistance from bystanders who transported him to medical care. Authorities confirmed he is now stable.

Electric Shock Incident Also Reported

In a separate event on the same day, a seventeen-year-old youth experienced severe burns after an electric shock while flying a kite in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri neighborhood. Investigators believe the kite string touched overhead power cables. The teenager has been hospitalized at GTB Hospital for ongoing treatment.

“The string came in contact with the 11kv power line in front of the house, and the boy suffered an electric shock. His family rushed him to the hospital,” DCP (East) Rajeev Kumar said.

Continued Raids and Previous Cases

Law enforcement agencies have initiated legal proceedings and are conducting continued operations targeting vendors who sell Chinese manjha. During a special campaign launched on Independence Day, numerous teams patrolled the city to curb the practice.

“During the drive, police arrested a resident of Begumpur, Rohini, with 80 rims of Chinese Manjha,” said DCP (Rohini) Shashank Jaiswal.

The National Green Tribunal has issued a prohibition on Chinese manjha usage. This latest case follows two other serious incidents. On Wednesday, a three-year-old child was hurt in Maujpur when a loose kite string tangled around his neck during a two-wheeler ride with his older sibling. Earlier, on August 5, a thirty-two-year-old entrepreneur sustained critical injuries in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area when a kite string severed his throat while he was commuting home from work on his bicycle.
