Threat Warnings Reach Two Khalistan Advocates in Canada

Bharatmorningnews.com – Two supporters of the Khalistan separatist cause residing in Canada have been formally notified by police that their lives may be at risk. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police issued what are known as duty-to-warn notices to both men, though the force declined to specify the source or precise nature of the danger.

Who Received the Notices

As reported by the Globe and Mail, the two recipients were Inderjeet Singh Gosal, based in Caledon, Ontario, who serves as the Canadian coordinator for the so-called Khalistan Referendum organized by Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), and Manjinder Singh, who lives in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

Gosal, speaking to Canadian media, connected the warnings to the upcoming second phase of the referendum, scheduled for October 18 in Edmonton, the capital of Alberta.

The RCMP Language

Canadian Press quoted the letters directly. The RCMP wrote to both men:

“You may be putting yourself at risk if you spend time in any residence, vehicle or location frequented by those who engage in a criminal lifestyle.”

While SFJ has publicly attributed the threat to India, the wording of the notices themselves pointed toward a criminal rather than a state-sponsored explanation. RCMP officials have not elaborated further on where the danger is believed to originate.

Background: The Nijjar Killing and Its Aftermath

Gosal assumed his SFJ coordination role following the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18, 2023. That murder triggered a severe rupture in India–Canada relations. Approximately three months later, then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told the House of Commons that there were “credible allegations” tying Indian agents to the killing.

Operation Hard Ball and the DOJ Indictment

In July of this year, Canadian law enforcement stated that no evidence had emerged linking Indian officials to the series of charges filed under “Operation Hard Ball,” an investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Those charges were unveiled at a press conference in Los Angeles by the United States Department of Justice and included counts connected to Nijjar’s murder.

The indictment named Lawrence Bishnoi — leader of the eponymous gang and currently incarcerated in India — along with Satinderjeet Singh, widely known as Goldy Brar, as the figures who directed the killing. Brar, who is wanted in India over the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala, is understood to be in North America at present and now heads a rival faction.

RCMP Deputy Commissioner’s Remarks

In a CBC News interview following the DOJ announcement, RCMP Deputy Commissioner Lisa Moreland declined to address questions about the allegations originally raised by Trudeau. She explained that court proceedings against four Indian nationals were still underway and that she would not comment on that specific matter. The trial is slated to commence in January 2027.

On the broader question of state involvement, Moreland was unequivocal:

“There is no evidence to suggest through this organised crime investigation and the charges and indictment laid forward, that Indian officials were charged or involved in this.”

She reinforced the point shortly afterward, stating “firmly” that “nothing has come out today to link the Indian government.” Moreland also noted that India had cooperated with the Operation Hard Ball investigation.

Diplomatic Thaw Under Carney

Relations between the two countries have improved markedly under Prime Minister Mark Carney, who has met Prime Minister Narendra Modi three times since taking office in March 2025. The two governments are presently negotiating a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA), with talks expected to wrap up before the close of this year.
