Removing Trump’s Name from Kennedy Center: Delay Sparks Criticism

Removing Trump name from Kennedy Center – President Donald Trump’s name was slated for removal from the Kennedy Center, yet the administration has sought a 12-hour reprieve. Senior POLITICO reporter Kyle Cheney unveiled the document requesting this extension.

Critics, such as Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, had gathered outside the venue for much of the evening, expressing dissatisfaction with the delay.

The Kennedy Center faced a court order to eliminate all Trump-related references from its exterior and operations after a judge denied a request to halt the deadline on Friday. The administration cited safety concerns from thunderstorms in Washington, D.C., as the reason for the delayed signage removal.

“Defendants respectfully seek a short extension to file the compliance declaration required by the Court’s May 29, 2026, permanent-injunction order (see ECF No. 49). The task of removing the Trump signage from the Center’s front portico has been delayed due to weather-related challenges,” the document explained.

The removal process continues as of now, with the administration anticipating completion by early June 13, 2026. They requested an extension until noon that day, after realizing progress on the removal had been stalled.

“Why is it that when the workers added Trump’s name to the Kennedy Center they used cherry pickers for speed… But to take it down, scaffolding has been set up for hours. Where are the cherry pickers? Something ain’t right here,” a user questioned on X.

A retired attorney criticized the storm delay as unconvincing, suggesting it could be part of a broader strategy to enable the DOJ to pursue further legal actions.
