Woman Arrested After Killing Husband and Attempting to Harm Son in Dharwad

Bharatmorningnews.com – A 40-year-old ophthalmologist, identified as Bidar, has been taken into custody following the murder of her 43-year-old husband, an anesthesiologist, and an attempted attack on their eight-year-old son in Dharwad, Karnataka. Law enforcement officials confirmed the arrest occurred on Wednesday, revealing that the accused had initially tried to end her own life with a high dose of insulin.

Relatives Trigger Investigation

The incident was discovered when Kiran’s family members, unable to reach him via phone since Tuesday evening, noticed his wife, Priyanka, answering calls and repeatedly claiming he was “resting” or had “stepped out.” This raised doubts among the relatives, who later arrived at the apartment to find Dr. Kiran unconscious and covered in blood.

“Upon checking the apartment, we found Dr. Kiran lying on a bed, injured, and their son Nehit with stab wounds,” stated Hubballi-Dharwad police commissioner N Shashikumar. “The family’s concerns led to the uncovering of the crime.”

Following the discovery, Priyanka attempted suicide by injecting insulin, according to police. The son was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while Dr. Kiran’s condition was critical at the scene. Officers reported that the case is being investigated under sections 130 (assault), 109 (attempted murder), and 118(2) (grievous harm via dangerous weapons) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, based on a complaint from Kiran’s sister, Sujatha Lindi.

Although relatives have accused Priyanka of the murder, law enforcement has not yet confirmed her direct involvement. The probe continues to determine the exact cause of the tragedy.
