19-Year-Old Arrested in Fatal Attack on Minor Girlfriend in Badaun
19 year old held for killing – Authorities in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh apprehended a 19-year-old man on Sunday after he admitted to murdering his 17-year-old girlfriend in a confrontation sparked by disputes over his engagement to another woman. The incident unfolded late Saturday, following a month-long rift between the couple.
Accused’s Father Under Scrutiny
“We are examining the claims made by the victim’s family regarding the father’s possible role in the crime,” stated Hirdesh Katheriya, the rural police superintendent for Badaun.
The event took place in Rampur Tanda village, under the jurisdiction of Billi police station. Investigators revealed that Jogendra Singh, a first-year BA student, had recently pledged his hand in marriage to a woman from Hayatnagar. Since then, his 17-year-old girlfriend had reportedly demanded that he abandon the new engagement to marry her, causing repeated conflicts.
According to police, the girl departed her residence around 10 a.m. on Saturday, informing her family she was heading to Nagar Jhuna for a Class 12 transfer certificate. Instead, she met Jogendra in a secluded maize field. There, she was allegedly suffocated with her own dupatta before her body was left in the field.
The girl’s absence by evening prompted her family to initiate a search. Unable to find her, they reported Jogendra to the police, leading to his arrest at his home. Following his confession, officers retrieved the body from the maize field. The investigation uncovered that the couple had been together for over three years, and the victim’s family was aware of their relationship.
Currently, the girl’s body is undergoing a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death. Additional inquiries are ongoing to establish the full sequence of events. Police have not yet disclosed any other suspects in the case.
