Ludhiana: Four held for attacking, robbing judoka

Details of the Arrest

Ludhiana – Division 8 police in Ludhiana have apprehended four individuals three days after they assaulted and stole a national-level judoka’s bicycle near Guru Nanak Stadium on Basant Singh Khalsa Road, also known as Club Road. The suspects were identified as Karan alias Mota from New National Colony, Tibba Road; Teerath Singh of Islam Ganj; Akash Kumar alias Ishu of New Puneet Nagar; and Rohan Kumar of Kakka Dhaula village.

During the investigation, authorities recovered two sharp-edged weapons and two bicycles from the accused, including the one they seized from the judoka. The incident occurred on June 7, when the victim, Aman Sharma, 17, was attacked and robbed while cycling outside the stadium.

ACP’s Statement

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP, Civil Lines), Sarabjit Singh Cheema, stated that the police registered an FIR under sections 309 (4) (robbery), 3 (5) (criminal act by several persons in common intention), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 118 (1) (hurt using dangerous weapons) of the BNS after receiving the complaint. The accused were arrested when they were seen loitering in the vicinity on Wednesday.

Sharma reported suffering a finger fracture during the attack, which forced him to withdraw from the national championship in Chandigarh scheduled for Monday. The police are currently conducting further inquiries into the case, with the accused already facing charges in multiple criminal proceedings.
