Sanjay Raut predicts political upheaval at Centre amid Delhi protest crackdown

Bharatmorningnews.com – Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Saturday said he believes the Narendra Modi-led Union government is nearing its end, claiming that an alternative administration could take shape at the Centre by March or April next year.

Speaking to journalists in Pune, Raut linked his prediction to what he described as growing public anger and the heavy security measures imposed in Delhi ahead of protests called by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

“The beginning of the end of the Union government has started. It has panicked in the face of huge public dissent and will cease to exist by April next year. An alternate government would be formed at the Centre,”

Raut’s comments came as restrictions in and around the national capital drew attention. He alleged that authorities had acted to prevent people, particularly young protesters and members of organisations, from reaching Delhi and joining demonstrations.

Questions over restrictions in Delhi

Raut criticised the security response, referring to the CJP’s planned protest against Kumar. He said trains had been stopped, protesters detained and entry routes into Delhi sealed, describing the measures as an attempt to curb a wider public movement.

He claimed that roughly 4.5 lakh Border Security Force personnel had been moved from Jammu and Kashmir and deployed extensively across Delhi. His allegation was that the deployment was intended to stop youth groups and activists from assembling for protests.

“Around 4.5 lakh Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have been brought in from Jammu & Kashmir and heavily deployed across Delhi to block youth and members of various organisations from gathering for protests against the government. But this is a people’s protest, and you cannot silence the voice of the people,”

Delhi is frequently the focus of demonstrations involving national institutions, political parties and civil-society groups. Restrictions on travel, gatherings and movement can have an immediate effect beyond the capital, particularly when participants are travelling by rail or air from other states. Raut said the measures seen before the protest required an explanation from the government.

“The government must explain why roads leading to Delhi were sealed and several Delhi bound trains from various parts of the country were stopped and commercial flights diverted. This is an undemocratic government. Both Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah have become fearful following the revolt by the country’s people,”

He also said that public sentiment was in favour of Kumar stepping down without delay. The protest campaign centred on demands for the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation and objections raised by demonstrators over alleged “vote chori”, or vote theft.

Detentions linked to the protest call

Earlier on Saturday, CJP activist Abhijeet Dipke said in an Instagram video that he and associates were being detained as they got off a Mumbai-to-Delhi flight at Delhi airport. He had been travelling to take part in the planned protest.

The CJP also said that content creator Dhruv Rathee had been detained. In a statement, the organisation framed the detentions as an effort to silence younger people who challenge the government.

“The Dictator is TERRIFIED of young people who question its wrongdoings and refuse to stay silent.”

These developments placed the protest at the centre of a broader political argument over the right to assemble, the use of security arrangements during demonstrations and the role of electoral institutions. Raut’s remarks reflected the position taken by his party and other critics of the government, while the allegations he raised formed part of the political confrontation surrounding the protests.

Pune protesters released after detention

In Pune, city police detained about 80 CJP students and volunteers near Lal Mahal on Saturday afternoon. The group had gathered to demonstrate against the Union government, call for Kumar’s resignation and oppose what participants described as vote theft in elections.

Police personnel had been deployed in the Lal Mahal area to maintain law and order while the protest was under way. Additional Police Commissioner Rajesh Bansode said those detained were taken to Cantonment Police Station and released a few hours later.

The Pune action highlighted how the protest call extended outside Delhi, with supporters seeking to raise the same concerns in other cities. The participants said they would not accept “vote chori” during elections under any circumstances.

Raut’s forecast of a change in government by next spring remains a political claim, but his intervention underscored the heightened rhetoric surrounding the demonstrations. The immediate issues raised by the protests include the treatment of activists travelling to Delhi, the extent of security restrictions and the demand that Gyanesh Kumar resign.

As political groups continue to contest the government’s actions, the events in Delhi and Pune are likely to keep attention focused on democratic protest, policing and public confidence in the electoral process.
