The NCPI remains an unregistered political entity that participated in two assembly elections in Tripura, securing only a few hundred votes. Despite its modest electoral performance, the party maintains alignment with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Notably, these three Muslim representatives from Bengal’s predominantly Muslim district have chosen to absent themselves from National Democratic Alliance gatherings. They have made clear their intention to oppose any parliamentary measures perceived as detrimental to Muslim interests.
The timing of their memorandum coincides with widespread reports across West Bengal indicating that mosque loudspeakers, traditionally used for the azan or call to prayer, are being compelled to come down following directives from local police personnel.
Police authorities in West Bengal have consistently stated that these restrictions apply equally to all places of worship, adhering to guidelines established by both the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal concerning noise pollution. They maintain that no particular religious community faces targeted action.
Electoral Roll Concerns Raised
Beyond the loudspeaker issue, the memorandum addressed significant delays in resolving pending cases before the Electoral Photo Identity Card tribunal. The legislators warned that numerous legitimate voters whose names were removed from electoral rolls remain in limbo.
A large number of genuine voters whose names have been deleted from the electoral rolls are awaiting tribunal decisions. The delay is causing difficulties in passport verification, land registration, and access to government welfare schemes.
The MPs urged that all authentic cases be expedited and concluded before the year ends.
According to Election Commission records, the Special Intensive Revision conducted ahead of the upcoming 2026 West Bengal assembly elections led to the removal of approximately 4.55 lakh names from Murshidabad’s electoral rolls. This figure represents the highest deletion count among all districts in the state.
