Rahul Gandhi Warns Against Delimitation as Threat to Tamil Nadu’s Political Future

Bharatmorningnews.com – this was the powerful message delivered by Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday. Speaking against the BJP-led Centre’s proposed delimitation exercise, Gandhi characterized the initiative as a strategic effort to diminish Tamil Nadu’s political weight in the country. He called upon all political formations to unite and resist the measure within Parliament, emphasizing its significance for the state’s representation.

Addressing journalists at Mamallapuram, a coastal town situated close to Chennai, Gandhi had just concluded his participation in a ten-day educational program organized for District Congress Committee presidents. During his remarks, he labeled the delimitation proposal as a calculated conspiracy targeting the interests of Tamil Nadu. The Congress leader stressed that the proposed changes could fundamentally alter the state’s political landscape and reduce its voice in national affairs.

It is a very important issue for the future of the Tamil people, the Tamil language and the state of Tamil Nadu. BJP is attempting to carry out delimitation, which is designed to disenfranchise and take away power from the Tamil people. This is a BJP conspiracy.

The Congress leader emphasized that any political entity backing the delimitation measure would be undermining the interests of the state. He warned that such support would enable the RSS and BJP to launch attacks against Tamil Nadu’s citizens. Gandhi made it clear that the delimitation process, if implemented without proper consideration for Tamil Nadu’s needs, could have far-reaching consequences for the state’s political representation and development.

Anybody who supports delimitation is betraying Tamil Nadu and is allowing RSS and the BJP to attack the people of Tamil Nadu.

Historical Parallel and Parliamentary Strategy

Gandhi drew a historical parallel to Ettappan, the eighteenth-century ruler of Ettayapuram, who remains a notable figure in Tamil history for reportedly assisting the British colonial forces against the freedom fighter Veerapandiya Kattabomman. According to Gandhi, anyone endorsing delimitation in the present day would be considered a 21st-century Ettappan. This comparison highlighted the perceived betrayal of Tamil Nadu’s interests by those supporting the delimitation bill.

He further urged every Tamil political organization and national party to ensure the delimitation bill faces defeat in Parliament. Gandhi stressed the importance of unity among Tamil political parties in opposing the measure, noting that divided support could weaken the state’s position. The Congress leader called for a coordinated effort to protect Tamil Nadu’s political future through parliamentary action.

No Tamil person should support delimitation. Every single Tamil party, national party should defeat delimitation (bill) in Parliament.

NEET Student Tragedies and Government Accountability

Earlier on the same day, Gandhi held meetings with families of students who reportedly took their own lives due to problems connected with the NEET examination. He expressed that students are expected to work diligently within an education framework that fails to be fair toward them. The Congress leader highlighted the growing concerns about the examination system and its impact on young lives across the country.

Nothing is more painful than seeing a parent grieve for their child. Behind every young life lost is a family carrying pain that will never leave them — and serious questions about a broken education system.

Turning his attention to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi pointed out that the Prime Minister has failed to meet even one grieving parent or sit with a student whose prospects were damaged by a leaked examination paper. He stated that Indian students require an apology from the Prime Minister rather than forgiveness. This criticism came as part of Gandhi’s broader commentary on government accountability and the need for meaningful action on critical issues.

He has not met a single grieving parent. He has not sat with a single student whose future was stolen by a leaked paper. India’s students do not need his forgiveness. They are owed his apology.

BJP’s Swift Response to Gandhi’s Comments

State BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy quickly responded to Gandhi’s comments on delimitation, characterizing them as irresponsible. He accused Gandhi of attempting to stir unrest across the country while supporting anarchists and seeking to fragment the nation in a manner similar to what Congress did during the Partition era. The BJP spokesperson defended the delimitation process as a necessary step for fair representation.

Here is a person who is so irresponsible, trying to create unrest in the country, supporting anarchists and wanting to divide the nation as the Congress did during Partition.
