Putin relays Iran’s position to Trump as diplomacy continues

Bharatmorningnews.com – Putin conveyed Iran s view on resolving the West Asia conflict to US President Donald Trump after coordinating with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, according to the Kremlin. The message placed Moscow in a diplomatic role as tensions remained high across the region.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tehran’s position was passed to Trump with Iran’s knowledge. He did not disclose the details of Iran’s proposal or say whether the exchange would lead to further talks.

Trump and Putin also discuss Ukraine

The Kremlin said Trump raised proposals aimed at reducing the fighting in Ukraine during a telephone call with Putin on Friday. Peskov said Putin responded with understanding to some US suggestions, without outlining the measures under discussion.

“The Russian president received with understanding certain proposals from the US side for measures aiming at de-escalation,” Peskov said.

Trump returned to office in January 2025 after promising to help end the Ukraine war. More than four and a half years into the conflict, negotiations between Russia and Ukraine have remained stalled while long-range attacks have continued.

US, Ukrainian and European officials also met in Miami on Friday as Washington sought a way to break the diplomatic impasse. Any effort to stop the war must bridge major differences between Moscow and Kyiv while civilians continue to face the consequences of the fighting.

Zaporizhzhia strikes intensify pressure on talks

The diplomatic contacts came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian strikes in the Zaporizhzhia region killed at least 12 people on Saturday, including three children. At least 14 others were injured after aerial bombs struck residential buildings, he said.

Zaporizhzhia has repeatedly been hit during the war because of its location near the front line and its strategic importance. The attacks have kept civilian protection central to discussions about a ceasefire or wider de-escalation.

Zelenskyy linked the strikes to Trump’s announcement that the United States had agreed to purchase Russian diesel. Kyiv warned that the move could provide revenue for Moscow’s military campaign and represent a shift from years of US pressure on Russia.

“Today, Russia expressed its thanks for the lifting of sanctions on diesel exports by dropping five glide bombs on residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.

The Ukrainian leader said easing pressure on Moscow could encourage continued attacks. He argued that different signals were needed if diplomacy was to help reduce violence.

What Putin’s message on Iran means

Putin conveyed Iran s view as Russia sought to remain involved in discussions over both West Asia and Ukraine. The Kremlin’s statement suggests that Tehran wanted its perspective communicated directly during wider international engagement on a possible settlement.

However, neither Moscow nor Washington announced a timetable for new talks. Key questions remain over the content of Trump’s Ukraine proposals, Putin’s precise response and whether contacts over Iran can create momentum toward a reduction in hostilities.
