Cristiano Ronaldo to retire from international football after 2026 FIFA World Cup, hints sister: “His last dance”

Cristiano Ronaldo to retire from international - Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential exit from global football has sparked speculation, with his sister Katia suggesting the Portugal star may end his international career following the 2026 World Cup. Currently, Ronaldo is in action as Portugal faces Croatia in the Round of 32, where he scored twice against Uzbekistan. Despite his goal contributions, recent critiques have focused on his limited movement in attacking phases.

“Enjoy it while it lasts. It’s ending soon. The information I have, from a reliable source… this is his last dance,” Katia said during an interview with Sport TV.

In defense of her brother, Katia emphasized his legacy, stating, “For those who truly understand the game, they must appreciate Ronaldo. They are the ones who end up missing out. He has ruled for over two decades. See where we are now, the Aveiro family… and where we came from. Look at the struggles my mother endured… Do you think criticism will dim our joy? Never!”

“The key is to cherish these twenty-something years we’ve shared. I am deeply proud. I was in Qatar, I am here. It’s a massive source of pride. I have faith, and we will smile at the end. He is confident; he is more composed than we are. I felt strong energy and assurance. For us, the fans, that gives comfort. We can rely on him,” she added.

Portugal’s head coach, Roberto Martinez, recently mentioned Ronaldo’s possible participation in the 2030 World Cup. However, Pedro Proenca, head of the Portuguese Football Federation, argued it would be surprising if the player returned for that tournament, calling it “highly unlikely.”

Past Defenses and Criticisms

Katia Aveiro, Ronaldo’s older sister, is well-known for her vocal support. A Portuguese singer and social media influencer, she recently criticized teammates after Portugal’s 1-1 draw against DR Congo, placing blame on Bruno Fernandes. While fans and analysts questioned Ronaldo’s playmaking in critical moments, Katia accused Fernandes of not matching his Manchester United standards during international matches.

During the 2022 World Cup, she also stood up for her brother after he was substituted in the knockout stages. Katia criticized the decision, asserting that fans had overlooked his impact on Portuguese football over the years.
