‘Will reveal corruption files… don’t force me’: Tamil Nadu CM Vijay warns DMK over claims of irregularities
Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Threatens to Unveil DMK-Era Corruption Files
Bharatmorningnews.com – Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay told the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Wednesday that he holds two files documenting alleged corruption under the former DMK government and would make them public "at an appropriate time," urging his opponents not to pressure him into acting prematurely.
"I will reveal the corruption files from the previous DMK regime at an appropriate time. I have two files on my desk. Don't force me to do it now."
The remark came amid a second day of sharp confrontations in the state legislature. On Tuesday, DMK legislator EV Velu clashed with TVK public works minister Aadhav Arjuna over a ₹5.54-crore tender connected to relocating the chief minister's office. By Wednesday, the friction had shifted to alleged discrepancies in road-laying contracts, with both TVK and DMK members exchanging pointed accusations on the floor.
The CMO Relocation Dispute
Velu had flagged the government's decision to move the chief minister's office from its current location at Fort St George in Chennai — which also houses the state Legislative Assembly — to the Namakkal Kavignar Maaligai, a ten-storey structure erected by the late former chief minister M. Karunanidhi within the same Secretariat complex.
The DMK MLA objected that the tender notice had appeared in a newspaper yet remained absent from the official government website. He further claimed that staff working inside the Secretariat had approached him with questions about where they would take meals and rest once the chief minister occupied their space, and he pressed CM Vijay to factor those concerns into the decision.
Arjuna's Rebuttal
Minister Arjuna rejected Velu's framing outright, describing it as a ploy to sow suspicion while projecting a conciliatory tone. He explained that the relocation was driven by the absence of basic amenities in the existing office space and the lack of a proper reception area for foreign delegations and other dignitaries who visit the Secretariat to meet the chief minister.
Arjuna also pushed back on any suggestion of personal indulgence, insisting that Vijay was so modest in his habits that he would be equally at ease in a hotel room or a van. He added that the tender process had not yet been finalised, which accounted for its absence from public channels, and warned that contractors would inflate prices if the Schedule of Rates were disclosed too early.
The TVK minister concluded by stating that the Vijay-led government intends to publish a comprehensive White Paper on the matter in the near future.
