Greater Noida Man Seriously Injured in Early-Morning Hit-and-Run While Collecting Birthday Cake

Bharatmorningnews.com – A 32-year-old Greater Noida resident was left with multiple injuries and fractures after he was hit by a car while crossing a road to pick up his birthday cake in the early hours of September 5. The collision took place near Ek Murti Junction at about 4.10am, police said.

The injured man, Himanshu Rai, lives in Extension Villa in Sector 10, Greater Noida. He remains in hospital but is out of danger. Rai said the impact came as he was returning across the road with the cake in his hands.

The case has drawn attention after footage said to be from a nearby CCTV camera circulated widely online. The video appears to show a vehicle striking a pedestrian at speed. Its authenticity has not been independently verified, though police said the force of the crash threw Rai some distance from where he was hit.

Birthday Plans End in Hospitalisation

Rai had gone out with his wife, Jyoti Mandal, after work because September 5 was his birthday. The couple had ordered a cake, but delivery was available only up to Ek Murti Junction, prompting them to travel there in their own car to collect it.

Mandal stayed in the vehicle while Rai crossed the road to receive the order. In her complaint, she said an unidentified car hit him as he was making his way back and then left without stopping to assist.

“We ordered a cake for my husband’s birthday. As the delivery was only available till Ek Murti, we reached the spot in our car. I was inside the vehicle while my husband crossed the road to collect the order. While returning, an unidentified car hit my husband and fled the scene without helping us.”

After the crash, Mandal contacted the police emergency number 112 and took Rai to a nearby private hospital. Officers said he sustained serious injuries, including fractures.

Victim Describes High-Speed Impact

Speaking from his hospital bed, Rai said he believed the car was travelling at an exceptionally high speed before it struck him and drove away.

“The car hit me at what appeared to be a speed of over 100 km/h and drove away. The way the car was being driven, it appeared to me that the driver might have been under the influence of alcohol.”

“It was my birthday on the 5th, so after work I went out with my wife.”

The allegation that the driver may have been intoxicated forms part of Rai’s account of the incident. The case remains under investigation.

Management Student Arrested

Police have arrested a 24-year-old management student in connection with the alleged hit-and-run. The man is originally from Kanpur and resides in Badalpur. Investigators said he was driving a Tata Punch at high speed when it hit Rai.

Police said their inquiry indicated that the vehicle was heading towards Sector 52 in Noida at the time of the collision. The suspect was identified and traced using electronic surveillance before being arrested.

A case has been registered under Section 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, dealing with acts that endanger life or personal safety, and Section 281, which concerns rash driving. Further investigation is continuing.

“A case under sections 125(b) (act endangering life or personal safety) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered, and further probe is underway,” said Ranjeet Kumar Singh, station house officer, Bisrakh police station.

Road Safety Concerns Around Busy Junctions

The incident highlights the risks pedestrians can face at road junctions, particularly during low-traffic hours when drivers may travel at dangerous speeds. A crossing that appears manageable in the early morning can become hazardous when motorists fail to slow down or remain alert to people on foot.

For families involved in a crash, the immediate priorities are medical care, notifying emergency services and preserving whatever details may help an investigation, such as the location, time, vehicle description and available footage. In this case, Mandal’s call to the emergency helpline and the subsequent police inquiry helped establish the sequence of events and trace the suspect.

Rai’s recovery continues as investigators examine the evidence surrounding the crash near Ek Murti Junction. The case will determine the legal consequences arising from the alleged speeding and the driver’s departure from the scene after the collision.
