Shah: Establish Multi-layered security during Amarnath Yatra

Enhanced Security Measures for Pilgrimage

Shah - Union Home Minister Amit Shah has outlined plans to bolster security across the Amarnath Yatra route and key tourist areas in Jammu and Kashmir. The initiative aims to guarantee the safety of pilgrims during the 57-day religious journey to the 3,880-meter-high cave shrine in the Himalayas. According to a statement from the Union home ministry, Shah emphasized the importance of creating a robust security infrastructure.

"The home minister directed that an integrated and impregnable security cover be put in place through close coordination among the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CAPFs and other security agencies. The traditional security framework should be further strengthened through the extensive use of modern technologies such as drones, CCTV surveillance, advanced monitoring systems and other technological tools," a home ministry spokesperson said, citing directions issued by the home minister during the meeting.

Modern Tech Integration in Safety Measures

During a high-level review meeting held in Delhi, Shah highlighted the necessity of incorporating cutting-edge technologies to fortify the existing security measures. The meeting included National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi, and other senior officials. Shah called for the use of drones, CCTV monitoring, and surveillance systems to enhance vigilance along the pilgrimage route.

Logistical Preparations for Local Participation

Officials informed Shah that preparations are underway to register local participants and animals involved in the yatra. QR code-enabled identity cards will be distributed to these individuals, while health check-ups and fitness assessments will be conducted for animals engaged in yatra-related activities. The home minister also stressed the importance of organizing disaster management protocols and ensuring seamless healthcare services for pilgrims.

Coordinated Efforts for Safe Pilgrimage

Shah reiterated the need for strict control over pilgrim batch movements, aligning them with weather forecasts and conditions. This ensures a smooth and secure travel experience. Additionally, he directed that security measures extend beyond the traditional pilgrimage path to major tourist spots, allowing pilgrims to explore without risk.

The Amarnath Yatra involves a 48-km route through Anantnag district and a 14-km steeper path in Ganderbal district. Security agencies, including the Central Armed Police Forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police, are tasked with maintaining a continuous presence at designated campsites to monitor arrangements in real time. This coordinated effort aims to create a safe environment for the pilgrimage, which requires significant logistical and security support.
