Savannah Bananas and Banana Ball are going international with dates in Canada and Mexico in 2027
Banana Ball Expands Beyond the United States in 2027
Bharatmorningnews.com – The Savannah Bananas’ fast-growing brand of baseball entertainment is preparing for its first international season, with Banana Ball events scheduled in Canada and Mexico during 2027. The tour will also continue its major push into large American venues, including 23 Major League Baseball ballparks and 10 football stadiums.
Owner Jessie Cole announced the 2027 plans on Thursday, revealing a schedule that will take the Savannah Bananas and five additional Banana Ball teams to a wide range of cities. The expansion reflects how far the concept has moved beyond its origins at Grayson Stadium in Savannah, Georgia, where the team was initially created to build stronger interest in baseball.
“We were just starting to sell tickets and trying to get off the air bed we were sleeping on,” Cole said.
Mexico and Canada Dates Added to the Tour
The international portion of the schedule begins in Mexico. Monterrey will host Banana Ball on Feb. 5 and Feb. 6, followed by games in Tijuana on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13.
Canada will be part of the late-summer leg of the tour. Rogers Centre in Toronto is set to stage games on Aug. 14 and Aug. 15. Winnipeg will receive two separate visits, scheduled for Aug. 26 and Aug. 28.
Those stops mark a new stage for Banana Ball, which has developed from a regional effort into a touring attraction capable of filling major sports facilities. The 2027 Banana Ball Championship League schedule is expected to reach 79 stadiums in 74 cities when minor league venues are included.
Cole expects the full tour to attract about 4.3 million fans. That forecast underscores the scale of an operation that began only in 2016, when the Savannah Bananas were launched with a much smaller goal: bringing more supporters through the gates at the historic Savannah ballpark.
A Baseball Experience Built Around Fans
Banana Ball has become known for presenting baseball with an emphasis on pace, audience participation and unexpected on-field moments. Its approach is intentionally different from a conventional game, using entertainment elements that give spectators another reason to follow every pitch and every inning.
Among the best-known examples are pitchers throwing while standing on stilts and a rule that turns a foul ball caught by a fan in the stands into an out. These unusual features have helped the organization reach younger audiences and people who may not normally view baseball as a live-event destination.
The movement’s cultural impact was recognized in 2023, when the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, opened a Savannah Bananas exhibit. The display highlighted the organization’s success in attracting fans through a version of the sport designed to be playful, accessible and highly interactive.
Rather than simply adding spectacle around traditional baseball, Banana Ball has made those audience-focused changes part of its identity. The format places a premium on keeping fans engaged throughout the game, whether they are close to the field or seated in the upper areas of a large stadium.
Notre Dame Stadium Will Feature Two Fields
One of the most distinctive events on the 2027 calendar is planned for June 26 at Notre Dame Stadium. Banana Ball will introduce another format change there by setting up two baseball fields on opposite corners of the football stadium.
Teams will move from one field to the other after every inning. The design is intended to bring the action closer to different sections of the crowd over the course of the game, giving more spectators a nearby view instead of leaving much of the stadium distant from the playing surface.
The Notre Dame setup illustrates the challenge and opportunity of bringing baseball into football facilities. A standard diamond does not naturally serve every seat in a large rectangular stadium, so the two-field arrangement is meant to adapt the event to the building while keeping the fan experience at the center of the presentation.
Disney Film Will Debut in Atlanta
Beyond the expanded game schedule, Cole also announced a Disney-produced film about the rise of the Savannah Bananas and Banana Ball. The documentary will premiere on June 12 at Truist Park in Atlanta.
The film is expected to trace the development of the organization from its early days in Savannah to its current national reach. Its debut at Truist Park places the story in one of baseball’s prominent modern venues while the 2027 tour prepares to bring the Banana Ball format to cities across North America.
For fans in Mexico and Canada, the newly announced dates offer an opportunity to see the event in person for the first time. For the organization, the international games represent another major milestone in a journey that began with ticket sales, an air bed and an effort to make baseball feel fresh for a new generation of supporters.
