Peddi producer talks about Ram Charan, Janhvi Kapoor film’s weak box office performance in Hindi amid backlash
Peddi Producer Addresses Hindi Box Office Struggles Amid Public Criticism
Peddi producer talks about Ram Charan - Producer Venkata Satish Kilaru of Vriddhi Cinemas, known for his involvement in Ram Charan’s projects, recently discussed the underwhelming Hindi box office numbers of the film Peddi. During a gathering in Hyderabad, Kilaru expressed concerns about the film’s performance in Hindi markets, acknowledging that the weekend collections had only started to show improvement on Sunday. This comes after the movie faced significant backlash, with audiences critiquing its narrative and portrayal of Ram Charan’s character. Kilaru emphasized the importance of the Hindi audience’s feedback, stating,
“The Hindi market’s response is crucial, and we are hopeful that the film will find its footing in the coming days.”
Gratitude for Telugu Success, Hindi Challenges
Kilaru began by praising the Telugu audience for their overwhelming support, saying,
“First of all, I need to thank the audiences in the Telugu states. Their enthusiasm has been nothing short of remarkable.”
He highlighted that the film’s performance on Monday exceeded initial projections, which he attributed to the strong local turnout. However, the Hindi results were less encouraging, with trade analyst Sacnilk reporting ₹3.85 crore in Sunday collections. “We are aware of the Hindi challenges and remain committed to addressing them,” Kilaru added, underscoring the team’s determination to adapt and improve.
Despite aggressive promotions, including a pre-release event in Bhopal, Peddi’s Hindi performance fell short of expectations. Kilaru noted that the film’s collections on Saturday and Friday were lower, with figures of ₹2.80 crore and ₹2.25 crore respectively. “Ram Charan’s film has been well-received in Telugu, but we are seeing a different trend in Hindi,” he remarked, emphasizing the need for strategic adjustments to meet the language’s unique demands.
Director’s Apology and Content Revisions
The film faced sharp criticism for its depiction of Janhvi Kapoor’s character, leading to an apology from director Buchi Babu Sana. Sana, who previously worked on Ram Charan’s critically acclaimed film Uppena (2021), confirmed that certain scenes would be trimmed in future showings to align better with audience expectations. “We are taking the feedback seriously and are in talks about revising specific sequences to enhance the film’s appeal,” he stated. This decision came after viewers highlighted the character’s portrayal as a potential barrier to broader acceptance.
Sana’s approach reflects his experience with Ram Charan’s previous projects, where he successfully balanced narrative depth with commercial appeal. The director’s willingness to revise content demonstrates a commitment to addressing concerns, particularly in Hindi, where the film’s message may not have resonated as strongly. “We aim to refine the storytelling to ensure it connects with diverse audiences,” Sana explained, reinforcing the production team’s adaptability in the face of criticism.
Producer’s Vision for Hindi Expansion
Neeshita Nyayapati, Chief Content Producer at Vriddhi Cinemas, has long been passionate about cinema and its global reach. Her work on Ram Charan’s films has positioned her as a key figure in Telugu cinema, but she is now focused on bridging the gap in Hindi markets. “Expanding to Hindi is a strategic move, and we are analyzing how to make the film more relatable,” Nyayapati shared. With a Master’s in Journalism and a decade of media experience, she brings a unique perspective to film production, blending storytelling with audience engagement.
While Neeshita’s primary focus remains Telugu cinema, her team is actively exploring ways to enhance the film’s Hindi appeal. “We are looking at the feedback and considering changes that could make Ram Charan’s film more accessible to Hindi viewers,” she added. Her background in media allows her to navigate both content creation and market dynamics, ensuring that Peddi’s message is communicated effectively across linguistic and cultural boundaries.
Market Performance and Future Aspirations
Peddi’s Telugu success has been impressive, with ₹157.15 crore domestically and ₹233.02 crore globally, showcasing the strong regional demand for the film. However, the Hindi market’s slower response highlights the need for tailored strategies. Kilaru and his team are now analyzing the data to identify factors that might have influenced the Hindi audience’s reception. “Ram Charan’s film has a solid foundation in Telugu, but we need to ensure it resonates with Hindi viewers as well,” he stated, hinting at potential marketing and narrative refinements.
Looking ahead, the producers are optimistic about the film’s long-term prospects. “We are confident that with continued support, Peddi will achieve its full potential in Hindi and beyond,” Kilaru said. This confidence is bolstered by the film’s strong regional performance and the team’s proactive approach to addressing feedback. As they prepare for future releases, their focus on both storytelling and market adaptability will be critical in sustaining success across languages.
