Rijiju Clarifies: Chairman's Remark Was Observation, Not Directive for Shah

Bharatmorningnews.com – Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju addressed the House during Zero Hour on Friday, emphasizing that Rajya Sabha chairman CP Radhakrishnan had issued merely an observation rather than a formal direction requiring Union home minister Amit Shah to attend the parliamentary chamber.

The clarification came in response to leader of the opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, who had previously criticized the government for failing to demonstrate proper respect for the chairman's statement regarding Shah's presence.

Context of the Disruption

On Thursday, the chairman had requested Rijiju to "echo the sentiments of the Opposition" directed toward Shah. This request emerged amid growing disruptions in the House, with members demanding Shah's attendance following violent incidents at student demonstrations in Delhi during the previous month.

"He's been here everyday from morning till late… the Opposition is only creating a narrative," Rijiju said, defending the home minister's parliamentary attendance record.

The opposition has consistently called for Shah to deliver a formal statement concerning police operations against protesters on July 20.

Differentiating Sansad from Sadan

Samajwadi Party lawmaker Javed Ali provided additional perspective outside the parliamentary building, explaining the distinction between the two locations.

"Sansad aur Sadan mein farak hai (There is a difference between the House and Parliament). He lives in Lutyens close to Sansad… What we are demanding is that he should come to the Sadan (House) and give a statement. Rijiju is cleverly misleading the House by saying he's here everyday."

Rijiju further criticized opposition members for constructing a narrative suggesting the home minister had been absent from parliamentary proceedings, asserting that Shah maintained regular attendance throughout the day.
