Jharkhand Scraps 22 Recruitment Exams After Probe Uncovers Alleged Irregularities

Bharatmorningnews.com – Student demonstrations demanding a federal inquiry into alleged malpractice in state hiring tests continued as the Jharkhand administration moved to annul 22 examinations tied to the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The cancellations rest on findings from the Crime Investigation Department (CID), which has been probing suspected irregularities across multiple recruitment cycles.

Cabinet Backs Sweeping Cancellation

A special Cabinet session held on Monday set the stage for the move. Late on Tuesday, the state's personnel department released a formal notification that postponed six upcoming tests and swept 17 additional examinations—conducted since 2014—into the investigative net. Chief Minister Hemant Soren publicly confirmed the annulment of the JSSC and more than half a dozen other exams, effectively conceding a central demand of the protesting candidates.

The state had already, on Monday, scrapped recruitment tests administered by the private agency TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL). Among the major papers now voided are the examination for non-teaching positions in state universities and the Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Exam 2025, covering both regular and backlog categories. Most of these processes sit at varying stages of the hiring pipeline.

Thousands of New Recruits Face Job Loss

The ripple effects extend well beyond the exam halls. More than 2,600 individuals already inducted into government service stand to lose their positions, according to people familiar with the development. The bulk of those affected remain in the probationary window of their appointments.

"…1950 recruits were inducted after the JSSC-CGL [Combined Graduate Level] exam. Hundreds joined after the civil services exam…forest range officers, child development officers and food supply officers. Most of them are in the probationary stage of their jobs. They are set to lose their jobs unless they approach the court and get a stay against the decision," an official said.

Protesters Press for Federal Probe; New Grievances Emerge

Demonstrators have continued to call for a central government investigation into the alleged irregularities. Yet the cancellation itself has spawned a fresh wave of discontent: hundreds of candidates who had cleared the now-voided JSSC-CGL assembled at the state secretariat, challenging the government's decision to erase their qualifying results.
