Chhattisgarh Targets ₹30,000 Monthly Income for Bastar Families

Chhattisgarh targets 30 000 monthly income - Chhattisgarh aims to elevate tribal families in Bastar to a monthly income of ₹30,000 within three years, as outlined by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai during the 11th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog. This ambitious plan focuses on transforming the region’s economic landscape through a multi-pronged approach that integrates agriculture, infrastructure, education, and emerging industries. By leveraging government schemes and innovative strategies, the state seeks to address longstanding poverty and unemployment challenges faced by Bastar’s rural population.

Economic Transformation through Diversified Sectors

The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to reducing income inequality in Bastar, where approximately 85% of households currently earn less than ₹15,000 per month. To achieve the ₹30,000 monthly income target, efforts are being directed toward expanding agricultural productivity, promoting animal husbandry, and enhancing the value of forest products. Additionally, the state is investing in small-scale industries, aiming to create sustainable employment opportunities for local communities. This comprehensive strategy not only targets income growth but also seeks to build long-term resilience against economic shocks.

Infrastructure and Digital Health Initiatives

A critical component of the plan involves modernizing infrastructure to support economic activities. Two large-scale irrigation projects, each costing over ₹2,000 crore, are set to improve water accessibility for farming communities, which is vital for boosting agricultural output. Simultaneously, the government is rolling out a digital health initiative that will create profiles for nearly 36 lakh residents, enabling better healthcare access and management in remote areas. These measures are designed to enhance the quality of life and productivity of Bastar’s population, aligning with the goal of achieving a ₹30,000 monthly income for tribal families.

“Tourism can become a major source of employment. The arrival of tourists creates jobs for hotels, transport operators, guides, artisans, shopkeepers, and local entrepreneurs,” Sai emphasized.

Empowering Livelihoods through Innovation and Investment

Chhattisgarh is also prioritizing the development of tourism infrastructure to harness the region’s natural and cultural attractions. Sites like Chitrakote Falls and the Buddhist heritage of Sirpur are being promoted as key drivers of economic diversification. The state is further implementing reforms to attract investments, such as a single-window clearance system and digital tools like AgriStack, which connect over 33 lakh farmers to modern services. These innovations are expected to streamline operations, reduce bureaucratic delays, and foster a more dynamic economy, ultimately contributing to the ₹30,000 monthly income target.

The government has launched the “Digital Dwar” project and the Atal Monitoring Portal to ensure transparency in service delivery, which is crucial for gaining public trust and efficiently allocating resources. These platforms are anticipated to play a pivotal role in tracking progress toward the income goal, allowing for real-time adjustments to policies. The One District One Product (ODOP) scheme is also being utilized to help local industries expand their market reach, creating additional revenue streams for families. With exports from the region reaching ₹761.76 crore as of February 2025-26, the state is on track to demonstrate the viability of its economic transformation strategy.

Education and Skill Development for Sustainable Growth

Recognizing the role of education in driving long-term prosperity, the state is integrating skill development programs into its economic plans. By equipping tribal youth with modern agricultural and industrial skills, Chhattisgarh aims to create a workforce capable of adapting to evolving market demands. The Dairy Model, which provides milch cows and buffaloes to tribal families, is a prime example of how education and resource allocation can work in tandem to achieve the ₹30,000 monthly income goal. This model not only enhances livestock productivity but also ensures food security and additional income sources for households.

“By fostering education and innovation, we can ensure that Bastar’s families are not only earning more but also thriving in the long term,” Sai added.

Challenges and Future Outlook

While the roadmap is promising, challenges remain in implementing these strategies effectively. The state must ensure equitable distribution of resources, address infrastructure gaps, and provide continuous support to small-scale industries. Sai acknowledged the need for sustained efforts, stating that achieving the ₹30,000 monthly income target requires collaboration between government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and local communities. The success of this initiative will hinge on timely execution, regular monitoring, and adapting policies to meet the region’s unique needs. As Bastar progresses, its potential to become a model of inclusive growth will be closely watched by policymakers across the country.
