Delhi Protest: AISA Says Neha Bora Picked Up in Private Vehicle

Bharatmorningnews.com – AISA says Neha Bora picked up by police in a vehicle that appeared to be privately operated during a protest in Delhi on Sunday. The All India Students’ Association alleged that its national president was detained without proper procedure as demonstrators called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

Neha Bora was later released from the Narela Industrial Area police station. Delhi Police denied the allegation about the vehicle, maintaining that she was taken in an official government vehicle with female personnel present.

AISA raises concerns over Bora’s detention

AISA alleged that Bora was taken away in a vehicle without an official number plate and moved to an undisclosed location. The organisation also claimed that no woman police officer was inside the vehicle when she was detained.

The student body said Bora was released without her phone or bag, adding that lawyers were being sent to the police station to assist her.

Delhi Police offered a different version of events. DCP Sachin Sharma said Bora was transported in a government vehicle and that two female staff members were seated in the rear.

“Neha Bora was detained in a government vehicle with two female staff at the back and was released also,” DCP Sachin Sharma said.

The dispute over whether AISA says Neha Bora picked up in a private vehicle or an official one became a central issue during the protest. The two sides also differed on whether women police personnel were present at the time of detention.

Security tightened for Delhi protest march

Protesters had attempted to return to Jantar Mantar for a third consecutive day. They were demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar over allegations linked to electoral-roll revision, the Special Intensive Revision exercise and claimed voter deletions.

Authorities deployed around 5,000 personnel across Delhi for two planned marches from India Gate to Jantar Mantar. The security arrangement included the Rapid Action Force and other paramilitary units.

The protest mobilisation began at Andhra Bhawan Circle on Ashoka Road. Demonstrators moved towards Jantar Mantar while police controlled the route with barricades and a heavy security presence. A brief clash took place after protesters tried to cross the barriers.

Visuals from the site showed Bora attempting to climb a barricade as police officials tried to stop her. The scenes reflected the tense standoff between protesters seeking to reach Jantar Mantar and authorities enforcing restrictions on the march route.

AAP workers detained during march

Police also detained Aam Aadmi Party workers heading towards India Gate. Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bhardwaj was among those taken into custody while participating in the protest against the CEC.

Bhardwaj accused police personnel of rough treatment while speaking from a police bus. He said peaceful protesters were being handled harshly and urged people to join the demonstration.

The Delhi demonstrations were part of a wider agitation in several cities. Protesters have raised concerns about the Election Commission’s functioning, the SIR exercise and alleged large-scale deletion of voters from electoral rolls.
