Bharatmorningnews.com – Thousands gathered on Friday to pay their final respects as the last rites of Uma Shankar Singh were conducted with full state honours at the Ganga ghat in Ballia district. The Bahujan Samaj Party's sole representative in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly passed away on Wednesday evening following a lengthy illness at the age of 55.
Prince, also known as Yukesh Singh, the son of the deceased legislator, performed the sacred ritual of lighting the funeral pyre. His action took place before a massive gathering of mourners who had come to honor the departed leader.
Procession Through Multiple Localities
The funeral cortege traveled through several villages and towns before arriving at the cremation grounds. The route included stops at Bachhaipur, Salempur, Chogda, Kukurha, Hajauli, and Chilkahar. Throughout this journey, residents, political supporters, social organization representatives, and leaders from different parties offered their tributes.
At numerous locations along the way, people showered flower petals on the late MLA's mortal remains. Many attendees remembered Singh's friendly and approachable personality during his political career.
Dignitaries and Officials Pay Respects
Ballia district magistrate Mangla Prasad Singh and superintendent of police Omvir Singh visited the MLA's residence to express their condolences. Earlier on Thursday, chief minister Yogi Adityanath accompanied by several ministers also honored the deceased legislator.
BSP president Mayawati made a visit to Singh's Ballia residence to pay her last respects. Additionally, Uttar Pradesh Assembly speaker Satish Mahana issued a statement condoled the loss of the BSP representative.
The local administration ensured proper security and traffic management for the funeral procession. A significant number of people traveled from various villages in the region to attend the memorial services at Khanwar village, Singh's ancestral home, before proceeding to the Ganga ghat for the cremation ceremony.
