RTO Launches Statewide Crackdown on Overloaded Trucks

RTO action against overloaded trucks to start - Pune-based authorities have initiated a special enforcement campaign targeting overloaded goods vehicles on highways, effective from June 8 to June 21. The move aims to address the issue of excessive load on roads and combat the alleged connections between violators and local officials.

Operational Strategy to Minimize Local Influence

The campaign, termed a “targeted operation” against overloading, employs a cross-checking system to ensure impartiality. Teams from one district will inspect vehicles in another, reducing the risk of local bias and corrupt practices.

Transport commissioner Rajesh Narvekar has mandated that regional and sub-regional transport offices escalate enforcement actions and closely oversee the measures taken against offenders. This step underscores the administration's commitment to maintaining strict adherence to regulations.

“Overloaded trucks not only breach transport rules but also pose a threat to the safety of countless road users,” stated state transport minister Pratap Sarnaik. “Reports indicate that enforcement efforts were being weakened in certain areas due to local-level interference. The cross-checking approach ensures transparency, accountability, and strict enforcement of the law. Any individual or entity aiding these violations will face consequences.”

As part of the cross-checking framework, Pune RTO teams will inspect trucks in Buldhana, Bhandara, and Parbhani. In return, districts like Chandrapur and Nagpur rural will be monitored by Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO squads. Ahmednagar RTO officers will focus on Yavatmal, Wardha, and Beed for enforcement activities.
