Ludhiana couple arrested for attacking MC supervisor - Haibowal police have detained a couple following an alleged assault on a municipal corporation supervisor. The incident occurred while the official was monitoring sewerage and water pipeline work in Smart City Colony on Jassian Road. The accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar and his wife Aju, residents of the colony, were booked under Sections 115(2), 126(2), and 221 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after the complaint was filed by the supervisor, Tarun Khera.

The work involved replacing private infrastructure with government-mandated sewerage and water pipeline systems. The altercation took place near Street No. 9, where the couple allegedly disrupted the operations. According to Khera, the dispute escalated when Aju began confronting workers and later struck him with slippers during an argument. Rajesh Kumar reportedly joined the fray, attacking the supervisor from behind and causing injuries. The pair also hurled bricks at him during the confrontation.

“The MC was laying government sewerage and water pipelines to replace the private infrastructure installed by the coloniser,” Khera stated. He further claimed that the woman had been obstructing civic work for several days, including preventing residents from accessing water supplied via tankers and snatching the keys of official vehicles twice.

Khera underwent a medical examination at the civil hospital before filing the police complaint. The investigating officer, ASI Kewal Krishan, confirmed that a case has been registered and both accused are currently in custody. O&M Cell sub-divisional officer Anshul Garcha added that the woman had been misbehaving with municipal staff for days and used abusive language during a recent visit to the area.

Further investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the couple’s involvement in the incident. The police are examining whether the duo’s actions were part of a broader pattern of resistance against the civic project.
