Haryana STF brings back gangster from Cyprus
Haryana STF brings back gangster - Haryana's Special Task Force (STF) announced on Friday that Dinesh, known as Mittu, an alleged member of the Kala Khairampur and Himanshu Bhau gangs, has been successfully deported from Cyprus. This marks Mittu's return to India after years of evading justice.
Mitu, 29, is a resident of Khairampur village, which comes under the jurisdiction of Adampur police station in Hisar district. “His deportation represents the 11th extradition achieved by Haryana STF in 2026,” stated a police official.
The STF linked Mittu to the Kala Khairampur gang, which reportedly has 38 members and is accused of committing murder, attempted murder, extortion, and other organized crimes across multiple districts. The gang leader faces 26 serious criminal cases.
“He used illegal 'dabba calling' networks in Cyprus to conduct extortion calls and hide the identities of gang members operating abroad,” an STF official added.
Investigations revealed Mittu's role in facilitating criminal activities while in Cyprus. He was allegedly involved in coordinating calls to extort victims and shielding gang leaders from detection. The STF emphasized his contribution to recruiting new members and maintaining connections between local and international operatives.
During the 2024 incident at a Mahindra showroom in Hisar, Mittu was identified as a key conspirator. The event, tied to an extortion attempt, led to an open-dated arrest warrant under the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.
Mitu fled India in 2020 and settled in Cyprus. To ensure his repatriation, the STF initiated several legal and international efforts, including look-out circulars and a request for an Interpol red corner notice through Bharatpol.
“Information about his presence in Cyprus was obtained via global law enforcement channels, prompting the start of deportation procedures,” the STF noted.
Police plan to question Mittu during remand to uncover his criminal network, trace overseas gang members connected to him, and investigate his involvement in organized crimes.
