Greater Noida Resident Held After Lift Altercation With Security Guard

Bharatmorningnews.com – A parking disagreement inside a high-rise housing society in Greater Noida West escalated into an alleged assault in a lift, leading to the arrest of a resident in his 30s. The incident involved a security guard in his 40s and took place on Tuesday night at a society in Sector 1, police said.

Officials at Bisrakh police station said the dispute began after the resident allegedly left his car in an area marked for no parking near his tower. The guard objected and asked that the vehicle be moved to an authorised parking spot.

“As the resident parked his car in a no-parking zone near his high-rise tower inside the society, the security guard protested and asked him to park the vehicle at the designated place,” said Ranjeet Singh, station house officer, Bisrakh police station.

Dispute Continued Inside the Lift

Police said the resident allegedly declined to relocate the car and entered the lift to go to his flat. The security guard followed him, continuing to request that he shift the vehicle. The confrontation intensified when the guard attempted to contact the society’s management over the parking issue.

A video of the incident shows a man striking the guard while the guard appears to be trying to make a phone call inside the lift. The footage shows the guard objecting as the man allegedly continues the assault. A woman can also be seen attempting to stop the confrontation.

Officials identified the woman in the video as the resident’s wife. The footage later shows the guard striking the resident as well, reflecting how the argument turned into a physical clash rather than remaining a dispute over parking rules.

Other security personnel and members of the society’s management stepped in after the incident to calm both sides and bring the confrontation under control.

Case Registered at Bisrakh Police Station

The security guard filed a complaint following the incident. Police registered a non-cognizable report, or NCR, on Wednesday for assault under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The resident was subsequently arrested, officials said.

Further investigation is continuing. The case will examine the sequence of events in the lift, the alleged parking violation that triggered the dispute, the video footage, and the roles of those involved in the altercation.

Parking Disputes Can Quickly Become Safety Concerns

Parking is often a sensitive issue in dense residential developments, particularly in high-rise societies where common areas, access lanes and designated slots must be shared by many residents. Rules restricting parking near towers or in no-parking zones are generally intended to keep entrances, movement areas and other shared spaces clear.

In such settings, security staff are frequently responsible for enforcing society instructions on the ground. Their role may include directing vehicles, raising concerns about blocked areas and informing management when a resident does not comply with an established rule. Disagreement over a parking request, however, does not justify violence.

The Greater Noida West incident also highlights the importance of bringing society management into a dispute before it escalates. Residents and guards can seek intervention from management committees or authorised supervisors when there is disagreement over parking allocation or access. A documented complaint and a calm discussion can help prevent a routine disagreement from turning into a confrontation.

For residents, the episode is a reminder that security guards are carrying out responsibilities connected to the day-to-day functioning of a housing complex. For management bodies, it underlines the need for clearly communicated parking arrangements and an accessible process for resolving complaints involving common spaces.

Police action in the case followed the guard’s complaint and the registration of the NCR. The investigation remains underway as officials continue to assess the alleged assault and the circumstances surrounding the dispute.
