Bharatmorningnews.com – Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath used a Greater Noida event on Sunday to underline the place of women in India’s cultural, intellectual and political history, while linking that legacy to present-day government programmes aimed at supporting women and girls.
He spoke at the closing session of the two-day Prerna Vimarsh 2026 programme at Gautam Buddha University. The event, organised by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, was centred on the theme “Prerna Vimarsh - Naari Samman, Yuva Swabhiman”, focusing on respect for women and self-confidence among young people.
Historical figures cited in address
Adityanath referred to women from different eras and traditions as examples of their enduring contribution to Indian society. Among those named were Meera Bai, the 16th-century Rajput princess and Bhakti poet; Rani Lakshmibai; Sati Anasuya; and ancient thinkers Maitreyi and Gargi.
The references brought together figures associated with devotion, scholarship, leadership and resistance. The chief minister said women’s contributions have remained central to the country’s history over many centuries, even where their stories have not received the attention they deserve.
He also announced that three all-women Provincial Armed Constabulary battalions would carry the names of Rani Avantibai Lodhi, Uda Devi and Jhalkari Bai. All three women warriors are associated with the uprising of 1857.
“History has forgotten them but we have not. This will further give strength to our women police personnel,” Adityanath said.
The planned naming of the battalions places women freedom fighters at the centre of a modern police force identity. It also connects the recognition of historical figures with women serving in uniform today.
Focus on schemes for women and girls
The chief minister highlighted several welfare measures promoted by the Narendra Modi-led central government, including the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative, which focuses on the protection and education of girls.
He referred to the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, under which eligible pregnant and lactating women can receive financial assistance. Eligible beneficiaries may receive ₹5,000 for their first child under the scheme.
Adityanath also discussed the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana, a Uttar Pradesh programme that provides financial support to eligible girls at different points in their lives, beginning at birth and extending through higher education. Such staged assistance is intended to support families through key educational and developmental milestones.
In his remarks on household welfare, he said the BJP government had provided LPG connections to 12 crore, or 120 million, people. He said benefits were not distributed based on caste or religion.
“We do not ask beneficiaries their castes and religion while giving these benefits. But some people always try to malign the country’s image,” he said.
Employment and MSME growth
The chief minister also addressed employment and business activity in Uttar Pradesh. He said 950,000 government jobs had been provided during the past nine years under the BJP government.
He described technology adoption as an important factor in expanding the state’s micro, small and medium enterprises. Uttar Pradesh has 96 lakh MSME units, which he said provide employment to 3 crore people.
Adityanath said the state’s economic image had changed substantially from its earlier description as a Bimaru state to its present status as a revenue-surplus state. The comments placed employment generation, enterprise growth and welfare delivery within the broader argument that Uttar Pradesh’s development trajectory has shifted in recent years.
For Greater Noida, the event also came as preparations continue for the upcoming UP International Trade Show. The chief minister reviewed arrangements for the exhibition, which is expected to bring attention to the region’s role as a venue for trade and industry-focused events.
Tribute paid in Noida
During his visit, Adityanath paid tribute to Satyvati Mishra, wife of senior BJP leader Kalraj Mishra, at Sector 51 in Noida. She died earlier this month.
The day’s programme combined a discussion of women’s historical achievements with announcements related to women in policing, existing welfare schemes and the state’s economic priorities. At the Prerna Vimarsh event, Adityanath presented women’s recognition, youth confidence and public development initiatives as connected parts of the wider agenda for Uttar Pradesh.
