Amroha National Highway Closed for Pilgrims During Sacred Festival

Complete Traffic Ban Announced for Kanwar Yatra

Bharatmorningnews.com – In preparation for the upcoming religious observances, law enforcement officials in Amroha have unveiled an extensive two-day traffic management strategy. The initiative targets NH 9, ensuring unimpeded passage for thousands of devotees participating in the Kanwar pilgrimage. This special arrangement coincides with the second Monday of the holy month of Sawan, which also marks Shivratri celebrations.

Under the new regulations, all forms of transportation will face complete restrictions beginning at midday on Sunday and continuing through noon on Tuesday. During this window, neither heavy commercial trucks nor personal automobiles will be permitted to traverse the elevated roadway. The dual carriageways have been set aside entirely for the spiritual journey, accommodating the surge in pilgrim numbers heading toward sacred sites.

Previously, only the route connecting Delhi to Moradabad served exclusively for Kanwar travelers, while the opposite direction allowed limited one-way passage for smaller vehicles. That previous arrangement has now been discontinued. Starting Sunday evening, every lane along the corridor belongs solely to those undertaking the sacred trek, with regular traffic barred from entering under any circumstances.

The decision was taken after a significant rise in the number of Kanwar pilgrims ahead of the second Monday of Sawan and Shivratri.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Bhadauria, the heightened number of devotees prompted this comprehensive closure. Pilgrims originating from multiple districts including Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Badaun, and Pilibhit are making their way to Brijghat to gather holy Ganga water. Simultaneously, countless Shiva followers are returning from Haridwar carrying blessed water to their home communities.

Enforcement mechanisms have been strengthened with coordinated teams from both the district police force and the traffic management division stationed at critical junctions and diversion corridors. Senior officials have received instructions to conduct continuous monitoring around the clock and address any emergencies or unexpected situations without delay.

Commuters are being advised to postpone non-essential journeys and utilize alternative pathways marked for detours throughout the enforcement window. This precautionary measure aims to protect the safety of lakhs of Shiva worshippers while minimizing disruptions on one of western Uttar Pradesh's most heavily traveled pilgrimage corridors.
