Two Kharar theft cases under investigation
The probe focuses in part on tractor theft complaints registered in the Kharar area. In one case, a Mahindra 265 DI tractor bearing registration number UP-23-AU-2516 was reported stolen on July 29. A case was subsequently registered at Sadar Kharar police station on August 5 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
A separate complaint involved a red Mahindra Swaraj 744 tractor, registered as PB-27-M-7957. It was allegedly taken during the night of September 7, with police registering a case under the same legal provision on September 10.
Tractors and related equipment are essential working assets for many agricultural households and contractors. Their theft can interrupt farm operations, transport work and other activities dependent on machinery, making recovery efforts important for affected owners as well as for the wider rural economy.
Arrests followed leads developed during the probe
DSP Kharar-1 Ishan Singla said the investigation first led police to Shera, who was arrested near Hanuman Mandir on Sahibajpur Road in Raikot, Ludhiana. His questioning helped investigators move the inquiry forward.
Police later travelled to Meerut, where they arrested Himanshu Kumar. During questioning, Himanshu allegedly admitted involvement in tractor thefts and guided the investigating team to a location where four tractors and three trolleys were recovered.
The inquiry then led to Sameer Ansari. Police acted on information developed during Himanshu’s questioning and arrested Sameer, recovering a digging machine and eight rolls of steel electrical wire from him.
Recovered items being linked to theft complaints
Police are now working to connect the recovered vehicles and equipment with individual theft reports. This stage of an investigation can involve checking registration details, identifying owners, reviewing the places from which property was taken and examining whether the accused had roles in additional incidents.
The two tractors named in the Kharar complaints carry distinct registration numbers, allowing authorities to compare official vehicle records with the machinery recovered during the operation. The operation was conducted under the directions of Mohali SSP Varun Sharma. SP Rural Jaspinder Singh and DSP Ishan Singla supervised the action, while Sadar Kharar SHO Inspector Sunil Kumar oversaw the investigation.
