MP Woman Gives Birth to Quadruplets in Autorickshaw; All Newborns Pass Away
MP woman delivers quadruplets in autorickshaw – A 28-year-old woman in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandla district gave birth to four infants while en route in an autorickshaw after an ambulance reportedly delayed its arrival. The infants were pronounced dead upon reaching the hospital, according to officials.
Delivery in a Rush
Rajni Sindram, a villager from Naigawan, began experiencing severe labor pains at home around 7 a.m. She was approximately seven months pregnant. Her husband, Ganesh Singaram, recounted that the family had attempted to summon the 108 ambulance service but faced no response.
“We promptly contacted the 108 ambulance service, but none arrived in time. As her condition worsened, we sought assistance from the local Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker and transported her to the nearby Primary Health Centre via autorickshaw by 8 a.m.,” said Singaram.
At the Primary Health Centre, medical staff provided initial care and advised transferring her to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Bichhiya town. During the journey, Rajni faced intense labor pains and delivered all four babies—three boys and one girl—successively inside the autorickshaw. By the time they arrived at the CHC, healthcare professionals confirmed the infants had no signs of life.
Medical Officer’s Explanation
“The pregnancy was at 30 weeks, and the premature birth likely caused the infants’ underdevelopment. By the time she reached the facility, the delivery had already occurred,” stated Bichhiya block medical officer Anup Kumar Bharatiya.
Bharatiya noted that an ASHA worker accompanied Rajni throughout the process. He mentioned having no information about the ambulance’s failure to reach her home, emphasizing that the mother’s condition remained stable as she received ongoing treatment.
Investigation Underway
District Collector Rahul Dhote Namdeo confirmed an official inquiry is being conducted. “We are examining the situation. Preliminary findings suggest the infants’ deaths were due to premature delivery,” he added.
