Comprehensive security framework set up for pilgrimage
Drones CCTV part of multi layered – Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the deployment of a robust, multi-tiered security system for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, involving collaboration between Jammu and Kashmir Police, central armed paramilitary forces, and other security entities.
“Today, I reviewed the preparations and security arrangements for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra in Delhi,” Shah posted on X.
The 57-day annual pilgrimage to the sacred cave shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas is scheduled to commence on July 3. Pilgrims will traverse either the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district or the shorter 14-km Baltal path in Ganderbal district to reach the shrine.
“A multi-layered security grid shall be established by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CAPFs, and other security agencies along the entire yatra route,” he said.
Shah instructed that essential facilities, such as pilgrim registration, accommodations, health services, and disaster management, would be prioritized. He also highlighted the importance of aligning pilgrim group movements with weather forecasts to ensure safety and efficiency.
On Friday morning, Shah led a high-level meeting with national security adviser Ajit Doval, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Army chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi, home secretary Govind Mohan, and other senior officials. The discussion focused on readiness for the pilgrimage and coordination among security forces.
Modern technologies like drones, CCTV, and surveillance systems are being integrated into the security plan to enhance monitoring capabilities. The home ministry has already allocated 670 paramilitary units for the event, with deployment initiatives in progress.
During the meeting, details were shared about the registration of local participants and animals involved in the yatra, including the issuance of QR code-activated identity cards. Health camps for assessing the fitness of yatra-associated animals are also being organized.
Shah directed that senior officers from the CAPFs and J&K Police must maintain constant oversight at camp sites throughout the pilgrimage. He reiterated the necessity of securing all critical services for pilgrims.
The J&K administration, under LG Manoj Sinha, declared all yatra routes, including the Baltal and Pahalgam corridors, as no-flying zones from July 1 to August 28. This measure aims to minimize risks during the pilgrimage.
Srinagar: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir VK Birdi chaired a security review meeting in the police control room to evaluate preparations for the Amarnath Yatra, Muharram celebrations, and the Kheer Bhawani Mela. Key officials from the J&K Police, CRPF, ITBP, and others participated in the session.
Shah stressed the central government’s commitment to providing a secure and seamless experience for pilgrims under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. The integrated security cover will rely on coordinated efforts across all agencies to ensure impregnable protection.
