Police apprehend four Bangladeshis in armed robbery case

Residents flag illegal dumping unauthorised construction – Four individuals from Bangladesh were apprehended on Wednesday for alleged robbery, following an incident in Sector 23 where they reportedly took valuables valued at a minimum of ₹15 lakh from a retired army colonel’s residence. The crime occurred on June 4, as revealed by authorities on Saturday.

Investigators traced the suspects to Bajghera, where a team from the Palam Vihar crime branch, led by sub-inspector Manoj, conducted the operation. During the pursuit, the criminals panicked and fled into the Dwarka Expressway underpass. All four suffered fractures as a result of their fall.

Officials identified the accused as Mohammad Khairul Arman (52), Mohammad Maman (35), Mohammad Hilal (25), and Mamo Khan (26), all of whom are Bangladeshi nationals. Currently, they are receiving medical treatment at the Civil Hospital in Sector 10A and are expected to be formally arrested upon discharge.

“The suspects had conducted surveillance of several homes in Sector 23 before infiltrating the officer’s residence. We will interrogate them to retrieve the stolen items,” stated Naveen Sharma, ACP (crime).

Sharma noted that Arman, the gang leader, had been residing in India illegally since 2004. The group used Sangam Vihar in Delhi as their base, launching attacks on multiple properties in the Palam Vihar area. Additional members of the group and their families remain in custody.

“After every three to four robberies, the gang would retreat to Bangladesh to secure the loot,” Sharma explained.

Following their return, the criminals would re-enter India to continue their operations. Records show Hilal has 12 cases linked to dacoity, theft, and illegal arms possession in Delhi, while Arman faces eight charges of murder, dacoity, and robbery across Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Maman has three cases of robbery and dacoity in Delhi and Gurugram.

The attack occurred between 2.09 am and 3.15 am, with the suspects gaining access to the first floor of the colonel’s home by cutting the window grill. They took the colonel’s son Vikas Jain (48), daughter-in-law Rakhi Jain (45), and their 11-year-old daughter hostage. The retired colonel, aged 80, and his wife Sudha Jain (75), son Aseem Jain (45), and grandson Siddhant Jain (20) were sleeping on the ground floor at the time.
